What is your excuse?

This morning I met a woman that is changing her life. She is diagnosed with cancer (we are praying that it goes in to remission), the single mom of a little girl , she lives in the projects, doesn't have a car and has yet to graduate from high school. It would have been so easy for her to have stayed in bed this morning. I think most of us would have understood if she chose to especially since it was pouring rain this morning. But this woman got up and got her and her daughter ready for their day. Then began her usual walk from the projects up to her daughters day care and then to the specialized school she goes to in order to get a high school diploma. I had the pleasure of giving her a ride for part of her walk this morning.

Seeing this woman push through her circumstances made me think about how often I let small issues get the best of me. Instead of striving forward and pushing myself to be the woman God made me to be I sit and eat cookies. While telling myself it is too hard to be better.

We often let our circumstances stand in the way of the life we want. We tell ourselves we didn't do well enough in college to get into grad school or we are too far behind to ever get a good job or we are too unlucky in love to ever met someone who loves us for who we really are. Then the really scary thing begins to happen...we start to believe these lies. The lies begin to eat at us from the inside out and then we give up. We no longer strive to make ourselves and our lives better. We are no longer seeking God's will for our lives. We are stagnate. We are going through the motions of everyday life without really caring.

So here is some tough love. Get Your Dang Butt Out Of Bed! It is easy to mope and feel sorry for yourself. So your life is not going the way you dreamed...Change It. Figure out what will make you happy; ask the Lord what he has in store for you and set small attainable goals for yourself. Soon you will begin to see the fruits of the changes you have made.

What would you do if you were diagnosed with cancer, lived in the projects, were the single parent of a toddler, had no car and did not graduate from high school? Would you give up and stay home and watch TV on the government's dime or would you drag yourself out of bed and change your life?
